To say Lauren is fearless would be a lie. She is something greater, more imposing, and definitely more mysterious. For one who does not have fear or anxiety, jumping off the rails of life to find your own way is not such a big accomplishment. In contrast, to be one of those rare ones to look fear in the eye and do it anyway is something special. Personally and artistically Lauren is a trailblazer. Her desire to push her work and herself deeper into her own “wilderness in its rawest form” fuels her creative exploration of the soulscape inside all of us. This pioneer of the heart is not afraid to find brokenness. In fact, her current body of work sets up camp in these lonely broken valleys inside us all, not to wallow in self-pity but to help us unravel the unforeseen treasures beneath our own pain.
Lauren is ever-evolving personally and artistically. From pursuing a degree in oil painting to teaching herself the wet plate collodion photographic process to becoming a renowned composite photography artist, her constant curiosity pushes her along into new territory. Still, Lauren’s greatest accomplishment of late was not in the studio or in a gallery. That same thirst for discovery and unyielding tenacity aided her in achieving her National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification in late 2021.
January through February of 2022, Lauren Midgley will be exhibiting as the Lively Beerworks Taproom Artist presented by Rally. The artist reception for Lauren will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m.

BIO:
Lauren Midgley is a Fine Art Photographer specializing in Surrealist Conceptual Self-Portraiture. With her introduction to photography in 2015, she independently mastered multiple photographic disciplines including the 19th-Century Wet Plate Collodion process. Midgley is a multifaceted mentor and teacher whose expertise speaks to both the human and spiritual condition while imparting a passion for a broad spectrum development of the creative process. Her award-winning work has been shown in Galleries in Austin, Denver, New York City, and more. Midgley employs advanced digital manipulation techniques to explore the intersections of brokenness and spirituality. Her innovative approach to digital photography provides a unique platform to foster authenticity and reconnection of the heart space through collective emotive themes.
STATEMENT:
In my exploration of digital photography, I seek ways to manipulate and expand the traditional boundaries of this historical photographic medium. Employing surrealist elements borrowed from dreams, I aim to illustrate the narratives revealed in the hidden places and the subconscious. Vulnerably exploring the ties between the subconscious and the heart space, I transform my virtual canvas into conversations centered around the challenging questions of the human experience and offer a safe space to acknowledge the commonality of the heart collectively. This exploration has become the platform through which I acknowledge areas of brokenness while playfully fostering deep connections with my audience through photographic illustrations and unique emotive themes.
